Black & White Gallery

Welcome to the dark side!  The paintings you find here represent some intense feelings of longing, loss and even joy (especially if you have a dark sense of humour).

Black ink on good quality watercolour paper has always been my weakness — I love it’s bold expression and movement — with a little red or gold for embellishment or focus.

You’ll also find another of my great inspirations, trees.  Trees have always been characters to me, and I started painting people as trees way back in the 80’s.  They creep into my work with no apology.  I hope you will be able to recognize yourself in them as I do.

Many of these paintings have poetry to go with.  Sometimes the painting inspired the poem, or the poem inspired the painting.  I like to think that they are linked to a dance, the movement of a heartbeat, or a good Leonard Cohen song.

Some of my biggest pieces are not in this gallery, but I’d be pleased to show them to you in person.
